President's Letter 2024

January 2024

2023 saw the Patrons returning to our normal schedule of events including our ‘Annual Member’s only’ spring Getty Villa tour and luncheon with Dr. Sara Cole. Applications for our 2023 Casola Prize and High School grant programs also increased. At our August Ferragosto, held at the Barbera Estate, PIC awarded two Casola Prizes of $2,000 each and mailed out several H.S. grants. The total scholarships awarded in 2023 was $ 5,500, bringing our scholarship total to $34,000.

Our Christmas Gala was held Dec. 10 at Pasadena’s Il Forniao with more than 2 dozen members and guests. St. Monica’s Academy choir performed once again for the members. News articles and event photos are always available on the Patron’s website, picla.org, which has been completely updated.

Another charitable contribution came in August at the annual Ferragosto with the donation of $12,230 from the John A. Cariello Charitable Trust. These funds will be added to the existing Casola Prize endowment and will add to the scholarships available in 2024. Many thanks to Mr. John Privitelli for his assistance in this effort.

2023 also marks a Historic accomplishment for the Patrons as we celebrate the 60th Anniversary of incorporation as a 501 C-3 non-profit, dedicated to the promotion of our Italian heritage and culture.

Our annual spring Getty Villa ‘members only’ luncheon and tour will be held on Sun. Mar. 3, led once again by Dr. Sara Cole, Ph.D. Reservations for this limited event can be made via the PIC website.

Applications for the 2024 Casola Prize and our High School Senior grants will be posted to the PIC website by early February. All eligible university students can download the Casola application form and must complete the mail-in process by the April 30 deadline. High school seniors can also apply for the grant program via the website forms.

A special Christmas gala, featuring 2022 Casola winner and concert pianist, Mr. Davide Di Rienzo, UCLA Masters music major, will be held on Sunday, Dec. 10, 2023 at the Di Pietro estate. More info to follow.
