Patrons Celebrate Ferragosto & Award 2023 Casola Prizes

August 2023

On Sunday Aug. 13, the Patrons held their annual Gala Ferragosto at the Barbera estate in San Marino. Three dozen members and their guests enjoyed a lovely sunny day under the stately oaks and dined on a buffet of salads, lasagna, home made meatballs and Italian ice cream and cookies. Wine was flowing freely during the day.

After lunch Mr. John Privitelli, Sr. V.P. at Morgan Stanley and PIC's financial advisor, made a surprise announcement and presented a 'charitable contribution from the John Cariello trust' to the Casola endowment of more than $12,000. These funds will be added to the PIC's current Casola portfolio and will advance the college scholarship program said President Paul Romano.

Two Casola Prizes were awarded this year. The first to UCLA's Mr. Jack Coviello, who was on his Italian study program in Rome, and unable to attend. His thank you message is posted on our website. The second Casola Prize was awarded to another UCLA scholar, Ms. Alessia Guisti, who was joined by her father, and accepted her award with a wonderful address. To date the PIC has awarded more than $34,000 in scholarships.

Entertainment was provided by well known L.A. performer, Mr. Stanley Oliver, who treated guests with a selection of Frank, Dean and other Italian favorites.

A “save the date” for Sunday afternoon, Dec. 10, was announced for the annual Christmas luncheon. More info. to be posted on the website to follow.
