Of Bridges
a virtual book launch by
Thomas Harrison
in discussion with Professors Marjorie Perloff (Stanford) and Christy
Wampole (Princeton)
11:00am – 12:00 noon (Pacific Standard Time) via Zoom
A rich compendium of literary, architectural, and musical figurations, Harrison's Of Bridges gives a panoramic account of diverse meanings of bridges in seemingly unrelated times and places, questioning why they are built and where they lead. It examines bridges of thought and art, bridges as flashpoints in war, the links forged by religion between transience and eternity, the mega-bridges of our globalized world, the real and symbolic crossings facing migrants each day, and the affective connections that form and transform cultural communities.
